20 March 2010 Landscape,The 365 Project

I wanted to portray how “cold” the place was, I am not referring to the temperature, I am referring to the ‘feel’ that this place gave me.  Nobody lives in this part of Ras Al Khaimah anymore, I don’t exactly know what happened here…

I like how the light shines from the sky, it gives me a feeling of hope for this place. OK, enough drama.  Need to hit the bed now :)

Gear:  Canon 7D + Sigma 10-20mm
Settings: f9.0 | 1/250 | ISO 100

Post processing:

  • Dodging and burning
  • Experimented with colors by applying colored filters
  • Applied sharpening and adjusted the contrast

Happy shooting!

Taken with my point and shoot camera, Lumix LX3.  I haven’t used  this cam for quite a while now, but, whenever I needed its service, it never let me down :)

Taken around 3am today, after partying at The Rooftop Bar at Madinat Jumeirah.  On this picture it is on the left side, on the roof top of the closed bar called Trilogy.  Took this on the way to the parking area which is across the road.

Gear: Lumix LX3
Settings: f2.0 | 15 secs. | ISO 80

Post processing:

  • Added 2 extra exposures on 2 layers
  • Blended them manually (DRI)
  • Adjusted color balance and saturation
  • Applied very little sharpening and a touch of noise reduction on the sky

Nice weekend to everyone!

16 March 2010 Landscape,The 365 Project

This is a “breath taking” shot…  Like literally! This place was one of the stinkiest place I have ever been.  I have to hold my breath and shoot.   But, in the picture, I have to say, it smells pretty darn good :)   Places like this are always good to shot, simply because they are interesting and they are in a very good location.

Settings: f11  | 1/100 | ISO 100

Post processing:

  • Selective contrast increase
  • A lot of dodging and burning
  • Selective sharpening
  • Adjusted saturation

Have a nice day!

This was taken at Dubai Marina, on the way to Barasti bar, which is a bar/club located at the beach.  Really nice place.  Lately, I’m practicing different post processing techniques for multiple exposures.  This particular picture is from 3 exposures which I blended manually.

Settings: f5.0 | 1/25 | ISO100

Post process:

  • Opened 3 exposures in layers with Photoshop CS4
  • Manually blended them

See y’all !

Today, there’s a boat show in Dubai; according to their website, this is the biggest boat show in the Middle East.  I didn’t really went inside the boat show event, because I don’t want to pay, plain and simple.  :)   Anyway, there was a free Dubai Water Taxi that takes you from the parking lot to the Marina side where the boat show is being hosted.  That boat ride was free!  That’s the best thing!  This was taken near the actual boat show, you can see the lights from the left side.

Gear: Canon 7D + Sigma 10mm f2.8
Settings: f5.0 | 1/15 | ISO 320

Post processing:

  • This image came from 3 exposures, which I blended manually in Photoshop;  It is a technique called DRI (Dynamic Range Increase)
  • Adjusted contrast and saturation
  • Applied some mild noise reduction and a touch of sharpening

I can’t believe it’s weekend again!

11 March 2010 Strobist,The 365 Project

Wanted to do something that involves pairing (since it’s day 69) and  I had this idea of the water spray and the flower.  I didn’t get the effect I originally wanted but, I guess this is fine for now.  There’s always a next time :)

This is the Dragon fountain, right in front of Dragon Mart located at International City, Dubai.

Lately, there’s been a lot of work in the office… I can already foresee the difficulty on my 365;  But, that’s fine, I’m looking at it as a challenge.  Time to think some new ideas for the coming days :)
